Watch Dolly Parton and Katy Perry’s Delightful ‘Jolene’ Duet

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

As promised, Dolly Parton took the stage with Katy Perry at the American Country Music Awards for a duet. As implied, the costumes were batshit insanely perfect. Dolly paired white pants with a sequined patched jacket that winks at her TV movie, Coat of Many Colors, for which she accepted the Tex Ritter Award tonight. (Dolly said that the jacket was a strategic move to keep up with all the leggy women with whom she works.)

Katy had no explanation for the cowgirl Wonder Woman costume, but she did have the finger guns to back it up. During her tribute to Dolly, she exclaimed, "Y'all finally got me in a pair of boots!" For country fans who have been waiting with bated breath for this, it was surely a massive relief.

The two sandwiched a "Jolene" duet, which you can watch above, between performances of "Coat of Many Colors" and "9 to 5." The whole thing ended, as is only right, with Katy on her knees bowing to our true American hero.
