This year at Coachella, vendors selling everything from food to beer to merch will accept payment via Apple Watch.
Coachella partnered with Square as the exclusive point of sale at the festival. Attendees without Apple Watches will also be able to use their phones too to make payments on any purchase — no cash or cards necessary. But the idea that there enough crossover between people those who wear Apple Watches and those who are attending Coachella to publicize the partnership seems noteworthy.
What a difference a year makes: in 2015, Drake made news just for wearing the then preorder-only Apple Watch (and a red sweatsuit) to Coachella and now festival-goers are going to use the watch to pay for pizza.
In other Coachella tech news, MacRumors reports that the festival is going to once again use iBeacon location-targeting technology to send out rewards to festivalgoers who sync an American Express card with the Coachella iOS app.
