Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
Before shutting off the lights for good, Sports Authority is clearing out the racks. The bankrupt retailer will launch it's huge liquidation sale tomorrow at all 460 stores nationwide. Literally everything inside will be on sale: shoes, apparel, gear, accessories — even the furniture and lighting fixtures.
"We sincerely thank our loyal customers for supporting our company over the years and encourage them to shop early for tremendous values on their favorite sporting good products," said CEO Michael Foss, in a statement issued by the joint venture of liquidators.
If you're in the market for sporting equipment, you could use the opportunity to find steep discounts on items that rarely go one sale including big name brands like Nike, North Face, and Adidas. According to the statement, "most markdowns will be taken on already reduced prices, including clearance inventory, so the liquidation savings will be significant." Gift cards will be honored through June 27 — if you've got any lying around, here's your last chance to use them.
Funny enough, Sports Authority's website is touting their Memorial Day sale as "our biggest sale of the season," as if there will ever be another one.
