Dates are a big deal at the Met Gala. In the weeks leading up to the event, designers scramble to secure the most high-profile celebs to dress and bring along, of course, but the so-called "East Coast Oscars" are also the perfect place to solidify two stars’ couple status (see: Zayn and Gigi Hadid) — particularly if they dress in coordinating attire.
Following last night’s festivities, Vogue.com crowned Kim Kardashian and Kanye West the best-dressed couple at this year’s Met Gala, gushing that "little can compare to the stunning fashion moment they orchestrated" at the event. As a reminder, West showed up in a terrifying set of colored contacts ("Vibes," he offered to the gathered reporters, by way of explanation) and ripped jeans. They weren’t even smart jeans, which would’ve at least fit in with the evening’s techy theme. Just …. ripped jeans. Meanwhile, Kim wore a silver Balmain dress that, while eye-catching, was practically indistinguishable from the many other silver Balmain dresses on last night’s red carpet (Jourdan Dunn, Alessandra Ambrosio, Kylie Jenner, Cindy Crawford all wore slightly different versions of the same look).
Point being, awarding Kimye with the coveted Best-Dressed Couple title seems like a stretch. Also, blatantly incorrect. To that end, click through the gallery above for a few couples actually worthy of the honor.
