Everybody loves a wedding photo, sure. That's why our Facebook feeds are so crowded with them. (No, not because Facebook's algorithm knows you scroll meticulously through each and every wedding album, regardless of whether you know the couple. That's definitely not why.) You know what trumps even the best wedding photos though? Old wedding photos, like your grandparents’ black and white non-smiling, ultra self-serious wedding photo. This is an indisputable fact.
So Racked asked some of our favorite style figures for nostalgic pictures of their parents’ and grandparents’ weddings, and how those photos influenced their own personal special days.
This is Samantha's mother with her bridesmaids on her wedding day, wearing the same dress that her mother wore and Samantha would one day wear herself! Three generations! I wonder if those fab gloves made it that long too.
The newly wedding couple shares a kiss behind a wide brimmed hat. This totally proves the foot-pop was a thing before The Princess Diaries made it one. Also just imagine for a second the number of likes this would get on Instagram today.
Here's the happy couple right after their wedding. And our ’70s nostalgia is officially maxed out.
Jenny Bernheim, Margo & Me Blogger
This is Jenny’s grandmother on her wedding day, pictured with her twin sister, brand new husband, and younger sister. All I have is one word: FURS. Notice the furs.
Here's young Jenny herself pictured with her mom at her wedding! Too sweet. Flower crowns are always in when they're atop the head of a flower girl.
Kai Avent de Leon, Sincerely Tommy Owner
Kai's parents hold hands and look deeply in love on their special day. You literally feel how much warmth is in this room. Also the colors! The patterns!
Lindsey Dupuis, Celebrity Stylist
Lindsey's grandmother got married in the church and then her parents hosted a big family dinner at their home, which was the tradition in southern Louisiana back in those days.
On the other side of Lindsey's family, here are her husbands parents on their wedding day. Her mother-in-law's gorgeous veil was handmade for her by her mother.
So of course, when it came time for Lindsey's big day, she knew one thing she wouldn't have to go shopping for... a veil.
Seriously, this deserves a hashtag better than #couplegoals. Maybe #betrothedgoals? Is that a thing?
