When Saint Laurent announced that it had hired Anthony Vaccarello as its new creative director, filling the role previously held by Hedi Slimane, the brand wiped its Instagram of all past posts. A clean slate, despite the fact that Slimane’s Saint Laurent was a raging success with customers.
On Friday morning, two new videos appeared on the account — a hint of what’s to come when Vaccarello presents his first collection for Saint Laurent at Paris Fashion Week in October.
It’s not a total departure from what came before: the black and white tone, the creamy, pale light, and the models’ limp hair are all reminiscent of Slimane’s Saint Laurent ads for spring 2016. Of course, there’s not much clothing in sight, so it’s still unclear to what extent Vaccarello’s Saint Laurent will be a clear continuation of Slimane’s work.
Fortunately, we won’t have to wait too much longer to see more of his vision for the brand. According to WWD, Vaccarello is planning to release more imagery on Monday.
