There may be no shortage of young models-turned-actresses in Hollywood (Cara Delevingne, Emily Ratajkowski, Kate Upton … the list goes on), but few have managed to wow critics and casual viewers alike quite like rock royalty Riley Keough, daughter of Lisa Marie Presley and granddaughter of the late, great Elvis. Following roles in Magic Mike and Mad Max: Fury Road, Keough was cast as the lead in Starz’s The Girlfriend Experience, and quickly earned rave reviews for her performance as a high-end escort juggling an internship at a prestigious law firm, schoolwork, and a handful of clients.
It’s almost too easy to forget that a decade ago, Keough walked runways for Dolce & Gabbana and Dior and even appeared in the 2006 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show— and it’s a fact the 27-year-old is quick to brush off.
"To be honest, I don’t even feel like I can legitimately call myself a model, since I only did one campaign," she told Racked at Saturday’s Veuve Cliquot Polo Classic. [Editor’s note: In addition to her aforementioned runway appearances, Keough has also starred in ads for Tommy Hilfiger, Dior, David Yurman, and Lee Jeans]. "I always wanted to be in film, to go to film school, to direct. I’ve done more in the film world than I have in the fashion world. So fashion is more — I don’t want to say new and exciting, but certainly more unknown to me. But I love being able to go to shows now, and seeing what kinds of innovative ideas designers are coming up with."
And when it comes to designers, Keough knows what she likes. "I love Louis Vuitton, I love Dior, and I’ve been really loving Gucci recently. I've been spending a lot of time in my hotel room in my Gucci slippers this weekend!" she laughed. "But I’m pretty casual usually; I wear a lot of jeans and T-shirts."
That’s a far cry, she added, from the pencil skirts, pointy pumps, and body-con sheath dresses she wears as The Girlfriend Experience’s cooly enigmatic Christine Reade. "Her look is very corporate-sexy — not my style at all!"
