Is Blake Lively Slowly Morphing Into ‘Gossip Girl’ Serena van der Woodsen?

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Let’s get one thing straight: Blake Lively is a famous person best known for having flawless hair, putting together excellent outfits, being married to an equally good-looking person, and inspiring widespread envy. Serena van der Woodsen is a famous person best known for having flawless hair, putting together excellent outfits, dating equally good-looking people, and inspiring widespread envy. Near-identical qualities aside, Blake and Serena are not — I repeat, NOT — the same person. Mainly because the latter happens to be a fictional entity.

And yet.

Over the past few days, Blake has been hard at work promoting her most recent movie (the Woody Allen-directed Café Society) in a string of predictably eye-catching looks. But, as several Racked editors were quick to point out, there was something different about these outfits — and no, it had nothing to do with Blake’s much-fussed-over baby bump. Rather, they all appeared to have been snatched straight out of her Gossip Girl alter ego’s Upper East Side closet.

Unconvinced? Let’s take a look at an ensemble Blake chose yesterday, comprised of a bright pink Jonathan Simkhai dress, Sophia Webster sandals, and a Christian Louboutin bag:

It’s essentially the all-grown-up answer to a look Serena wore on on one of Gossip Girl’s Season 4 Paris episodes (remember the Paris episodes?!). The pinky-nude color palette’s identical. So is the defined waist and the brightly colored embellishments on the accessories.

But it gets better. How about this Diane von Furstenberg dress Blake wore — again, with Louboutin heels — last night?

The wrap-front silhouette and cobalt hue make it awfully reminiscent of a dress Serena paired with Louboutins back in 2012.

Finally, let’s consider Blake’s printed, plunging, belted Valentino dress from her outing earlier today. Remind you of anything?

How about the similarly printed, plunging, belted dress Serena wore in a 2010 episode of her hit CW series, which the character also happened to pair with a deep red bag and nude heels?

I get it, B. I miss Gossip Girl too.

xoxo
