Today marks the official launch of the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, which boasts a new and improved camera — make that cameras (there are two!) — along with a redesigned home button, better battery life, and water-resistant construction. Gone is the headphone jack, as you’ve probably heard (although the 7 will ship with an adapter allowing you to plug in whatever headphones you like, so don’t panic just yet).

If you’re itching to upgrade to a 7 today, getting a corresponding case should be a top priority; that glossy new jet black finish is particularly scratch- and fingerprint-prone, and while an iPhone 7 screen can now withstand a dunk in the sink (or toilet — hey, it happens), it still can’t survive major drops without shattering. And no, your old iPhone 6/6s case won’t fit the 7, since that nifty new double camera requires an extra-roomy cutout up top.

Thankfully (and perhaps unsurprisingly), retailers are already rolling out their iPhone 7 cases and accessories with abandon — but as anyone who’s ever Googled "cute iPhone cases" probably knows, the majority of them, while highly protective, are also highly dorky. Below, a selection that is not!

You’ve probably spotted Sonix’s clear printed cases all over your Instagram feed; they’re a celeb and #influencer favorite. Gigi Hadid and Kylie Jenner both own the Bisous design at left above; Nope is a great option for those who are down with the whole AirPods thing, but still need something that says "Piss off, talkative stranger."

DIY-philes looking to match their new iPhone to their favorite patched-up jean jacket will love Zero Gravity’s selection of cases. Their colorfully embroidered options are especially fun, while this one lets you take your Pintrill obsession one step further.

Fact: Waterfall cases — which feature loose glitter or charms that swirl around in an aqueous base, snow globe-style — make for excellent conversation starters. Case-Mate makes some cool ones, along with an equally eye-catching fringed metal case that’s sort of like a Balmain dress for your iPhone.

Peel iPhone case Photo: Peel

For those who cringe at the thought of hiding their brand-new device in a clunky case, there’s Peel, which makes arguably the slimmest, barely-there-est iPhone cover on the market, in just a few semi-sheer shades. No branding, no bells or whistles (unless you have bells and/or whistles set as your ringtone, of course).

Apple iPhone cases Photo: Apple

Of course, Apple purists will probably settle for nothing less than an Apple-branded case, and the tech giant aims to please. You can already shop their signature colorful leather, silicone, and battery cases for the 7.

Now, go forth and protect that pricey technological purchase!
