Melania Trump Gives Michelle Obama a Giant Tiffany Box

What’s in the box?

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

When Donald and Melania Trump walked into St. John’s Episcopal Church in Washington, DC this morning, they left something back in the car: a robin’s egg blue box immediately identifiable as having come from Tiffany & Co.

Consider the following CNN footage:

The box, which is large, flat, and appears to be square-shaped, doesn’t look like the dainty jewelry-sized boxes the brand is most often associated with, leaving many viewers to ask: What’s in the box? Racked reached Tiffany & Co. to find out what, indeed, is in the box, but the company does not comment on “the purchases of our clients out of respect for their privacy.”

It also isn’t the first time that “Trump” and “Tiffany” have appeared in a headline together. Thanks to the added security around Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue, the iconic Tiffany & Co. flagship store has had to add extra Tiffany-branded pathways and barricades and Tiffany-uniformed bellhops in an effort to encourage foot traffic and increase its supposedly impacted sales. But Melania appears to be doing her part to help out.

Her gift, as it turns out, was for Michelle Obama, who also gave a gift to outgoing first lady Laura Bush on her husband’s Inauguration Day in 2009, starting what now appears to be tradition.

You can watch Melania give the box to Michelle, then Michelle have no idea what to do with it, then give the box to Barack, then Barack give the box to someone else while everyone takes pictures, in the video below:

We will miss you so, so much.
