American Apparel, the embattled maker of super soft hoodies, super sexy bodysuits, and alcohol-hazed college dreams, isn’t long for this world. After filing for bankruptcy, and then filing for bankruptcy again, it sold to Gildan Activewear earlier this month. Whatever form it takes under its new Canadian ownership, the American-made brand won’t be what it once was.
To publicize the huge 40% off sale it has going on, American Apparel has been pouring one out for itself with a marketing celebration of its classics on its newsletters, social media channels, and website. The F497 Hoodie. The Easy Jean. The Disco Pants. The brand is shouting out all its greatest hits, one by one.
A disproportionate number of Racked staff members greeted American Apparel’s bankruptcy with personal heartache — I’d hazard that a lot of people feel this way — and American Apparel clearly knows it.
Let’s take a look at American Apparel’s farewell to itself, and feel free to sing along with us.
I KNOW WHOOO III WANT TO TAKE ME HOMEEE.
IIIII KNOOOW WHOOO I WANT TO TAKE ME HOMEEE.
I KNOWWWW WHOOOO I WANT TO TAKE ME HOME.
TAKE ME HOOOOOOOOOOMEE.
But not everyone is feeling so sentimental about American Apparel’s farewells. To quote one Twitter user:
When is American apparel gonna have 50%-80% discount smh yall closing stop playing on ur website

Fair. However.
I KNOW WHO I WANT TO TAKE ME HOME. I KNOW WHO I WANT TO TAKE ME HOME. I KNOW WHO I WANT TO TAKE ME HOME. TAKE ME HO OOOOOOOO OOOOOME.
