The American Music Awards (or AMAs, as the kids call ‘em) may not be the biggest music awards show of the year, but it still draws a starry — not to mention stylish — crowd.
With Tracee Ellis Ross hosting this year’s festivities and Selena Gomez, Pink, Demi Lovato, and Lady Gaga among the night’s performers, you can count on lots of great fashion moments in the hours ahead. Below, however, are a few of the red carpet looks that jumped out early — either for their shirtlessness, their savvy integration of knee socks (!), or the fact that they were worn by a literal infant.
Best Bleach: Selena Gomez (in Coach)
OR: Most Likely to Inspire You to Impulsively Dye Your Hair Blonde Too and Then Regret It, Probably
Best Pink: Pink (in Monique Lhuillier), duh
Was this one even a contest?
Best Prints: Gaten Matarazzo (in ASOS) and Caleb McLaughlin (in 3.1 Phillip Lim)
Millie Bobby Brown, watch your back: I know you’re supposed to be the most stylish Stranger Things star, but these two are closing in quick.
Best Lack of Shirt: Hailee Steinfeld (in Mugler)
Listen, it’s been really hot in LA lately. I get it.
Best +1: Danica Roem
Kudos to Demi Lovato for bringing along a date who knows how to make a real difference in the world — like our nation’s first openly transgender state legislator.
Best Baby: Asadh Khaled
At the tender age of 1, DJ Khaled’s son has already amassed a bigger collection of bespoke Gucci than any of us could hope to own. But you really can’t hate him for it because wook at that wittle faaaace...
Best “That Wet Look”: Ciara (in Alexandre Vauthier Haute Couture)
Between the hair and the super-shiny python dress and matching boots, that’s one slick look. Literally.
Best Knee Socks Only Person Who Should Ever Be Allowed to Wear Knee Socks Besides Cher Horowitz and Your Five-Year-Old Niece: Yara Shahidi (in Prada)
High socks are flattering on approximately 0.0001 percent of the human population. Apparently, that includes Yara Shahidi, because girlfriend looks like — to quote a certain Clueless heroine — a “total Betty” in this gray pair.
Most Likely to Make You Forget She’s Married to Channing Tatum: Jenna Dewan Tatum (in Julien Macdonald)
I mean, damn.
Most Likely to Inspire Your Next Lipstick Purchase: Kelly Clarkson
Kelly’s makeup artist, Ashley Donovan, used Pat McGrath Labs Matte Trance Lipstick in McMenamy, plus a little lip balm, to get the look.
Best Human Embodiment of the Fire Emoji: Tracee Ellis Ross (in Stella McCartney)
Seriously, it’s like she’s an alien sent from another dimension to force us all to step up our style game.
