It’s finally time to welcome back gingham, the more optimistic, warm-weather cousin of checkered flannel. The fabric makes a resurgence pretty faithfully around this time every year, calling to mind sunny day picnics and iconic actresses from the ‘50s and ‘60s in flirty gingham dresses and capri pants.
This spring in particular we are seeing the pattern absolutely everywhere, and not just in those classic, vintage silhouettes. Now you can find gingham heels, purses, button-downs, jackets, trousers, jumpers, and more — even gingham Vans — though we don’t necessarily recommend wearing them all at once.
Here, we’ve rounded up some of our favorite picks across the board, with highlights including an off-the-shoulder playsuit under $20 (!) and a shirtdress from Marques’ Almeida that you’ll probably want to wear every day even though it’s bright yellow.
