It’s never not a big deal when Pat McGrath drops a new product, and every time, it’s pretty easy to see why. Over the last couple of years, we’ve gotten everything from goddess-like metallics and light-reflecting highlighter to that all-over glitter lip pigment thing that, simply put, changed the game.
The excitement continues today with the beauty pro launching the next addition to Pat McGrath Labs, her highly anticipated, limited-edition cult product line: Dark Star 006, three eye kits loaded with intense, sparkly pigment. It should be assumed that the kits will sell out fast, so here’s what you need to know before you post up on your computer.
“The Dark Star 006 kit is all about the infinite blackness of outer space,” says McGrath in a press release. Might sound dramatic, but the products really do deliver otherworldly vibes.
The base kit, Dark Matter ($95), includes the Dark Matter pigment (a black powder with a subtle shimmer), Astral White pigment (a holographic, velvety white powder), Black Smudgeliner eye kohl (a super dark — perhaps the darkest? — black cream pen liner), the Cyber Clear eye gloss (an iridescent gloss — my personal favorite), the Mercury pigment (a metallic grayish-gold powder), and a fluffy, defined blending brush.
You’ll also find all of the products mentioned above plus an extra eyeshadow pigment in the other two kits: Ultrasuede Brown ($130) includes a really blendable universal shade of brown to work on just about any skintone, and UltraViolet Blue ($130) offers a really intense, shimmering blue that made its low-key debut on Anna Sui’s most recent runway.
If you’re a fan of a good smoky eye and have always wanted to try out something from Pat McGrath Labs but maybe felt a little intimidated, this is definitely the kit to cop. I’m not a makeup pro by any means (I rarely wear more than creamy highlight), but this kit was essentially made to simplify the smoky eye for just about anyone. All of the pigments — especially your main black, blue, and brown — are super smooth and truly buildable, so you can make mistakes without having to take out your makeup wipes. (Just keep smearing, that’s The Look.)
Everything in the collection is pretty customizable for every opacity and finish, so you can go to full Kim K. intensity and use every product at once, or you can just subtly wear one product — it’ll look good either way. Both the Mercury and Astral White pigments lend themselves to boost base shades to their fullest, most galactic potential, while the Cyber Clear eye gloss works just as good on your lids (as is or layered over a darker pigment) as it does glossed on your cheekbones for that dewy glow we’re all striving for.
All three Dark Star 006 kits will be available on PatMcGrath.com starting Tuesday, April 11th, at 12 p.m. ET. If in the very possible scenario you miss out on today’s limited run, Dark Star 006 will also be available on Sephora.com starting April 21st, and in a handful of select Sephora locations nationwide.
