Keeping at least one pair of easy, casual sneakers in your arsenal is a good idea for obvious reasons. But finding a pair that won’t have you twinning with 10 people before you even step inside your office is even better. No offense to Stan Smiths, but we’re just ready to look at something else — and you probably are, too.
This isn’t to say you have to give up on that clean white tennis shoe look; there are plenty of underplayed brands like Veja and Common Projects turning out minimal kicks in whites and neutrals, and even some bolder options like monochromatic pinks and greens. Classic sneaker labels also have great alternatives, from a reboot of Vans’ Old Skool to a subtle gray version of the Ultraboost by Adidas.
Here, we’ve rounded up eight of our favorite low-key sneakers out right now — and we’re willing to bet that you’ll be the first of your friend group to own one of these pairs, unlike those ubiquitous Stan Smiths.
