Before Instagram and sheet masks existed, who knows what celebrities did to prep for red carpets? Certainly not me. Now, skincare’s most visual product is the perfect way to prove that you actually did something to your face before you had your makeup applied. And unlike a gown, normal people can actually afford them!
I tracked down a few interesting Met Gala masks as modeled by Kate Hudson, Jourdan Dunn, and Ashley Graham — sadly, Comme des Garçons does not make any of the skincare variety — to try.
AHC Premium Hydra Gold Foil Sheet Mask ($31.95/5 masks)
Kate Hudson and Stella McCartney both posted this intriguing C3P0-esque version on their Instagrams, so I called in my best beauty sleuths to identify this one. While there are a bunch of Korean brands that make gold foil sheet masks, K-beauty blogger (and sometime Racked contributor) Tracy Robey suspects this might be AHC, because Anne Hathaway is a new face of the brand.
Elana, our entertainment editor who is better than Google, confirmed that Kate and Anne are likely friends because they were in Bride Wars together. CASE CLOSED. (Full disclosure, this is only my best guess, not a confirmed identification. But I feel good about it!)
Decléor Aurabsolu Instant Glow Hydrogel Mask ($20)
Ashley Graham shared an Instagram Story wearing this mask while laying on a table. The brand sent out an email confirming, so I am 100 percent certain that this is the one Ashley Graham actually had on her face.
SK-II Facial Treatment Mask ($17)
Jourdan Dunn also Instagram-Storied herself in a sheet mask before the Met Gala. While no brand has claimed it, two things make me pretty sure it’s SK-II’s: 1) It’s very thin and watery, and 2) she once told Into the Gloss that she uses them, like pretty much every other model on earth.
