Jaden Smith arrived at the Met Gala in head-to-toe black (very Comme des Garçons) and with a fistful of his own hair.

How did we get here? Last month, Will Smith chopped off his son’s blond dreadlocks and then posted the action to Instagram.
Jaden apparently kept what came off to ensure he had the most avant-garde accessory on the red carpet. Either that, or he’s like all of us after a drastic haircut — frightened, broken, unsure — and is carrying it around as a safety blanket. Totally understandable.
Either way, fellow cool teen Lorde took to Twitter to endorse Jaden’s accessory with a solid weirdo history reference.
wow coolest thing i've seen in ages love some freaky victorian goth hair usage https://t.co/ZsCrMWxEl2
