Tonight, ABC’s three-hour remake of the 1987 movie Dirty Dancing premieres, with Abigail Breslin cast as Frances “Baby” Houseman and newcomer Colt Prattes starring as Johnny Castle. And while it’ll be tough (who am I kidding, impossible) to fill Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze’s mambo-ing shoes, I’m excited to see how the reboot’s wardrobe stacks up to the original’s.
Looking back at the coming-of-age classic, it’s almost unsettling how prescient the film was in the fashion department. It may have been set in 1963, but Baby’s bodysuits, high-waisted jorts, twirly midi skirts, and crop tops feel unmistakably current — and are exactly what I want to wear throughout the entirety of summer 2017.
