By now, shopping and selling vintage on Instagram is a well-established niche within the social platform. (If you’re not already on the bandwagon, you can read about the trend here and see who to follow here.)
While finding vintage clothes on Instagram is almost easy at this point, shopping for vintage jewelry is less of a thing. Sure, some of our favorite accounts — Brooklyn’s @mirthvintage and @sloanestudio, Oakland’s @mercyvintage, and Kansas City’s @subrinaheyinkvintage — occasionally post great jewelry pieces for sale. But they’re so few and far between (and sell out so fast) that unless you’ve got your alerts set, don’t expect to be unboxing them at home anytime soon.
That’s why I got excited when I stumbled onto @Joya_Shop’s page a few weeks ago after noticing a stylish friend like one of the shop’s photos. The two-month-old Richmond-based account focuses totally on vintage jewelry, specifically the kind of big, bold statement earrings that feel very of-the-moment in 2017.
“I don't accessorize much, but when I do, it's usually a statement earring,” founder Emi Moore told me when I asked what inspired her to start the shop. “I'm always on the hunt for vintage earrings for myself and kind of had a collection going, so I decided I should share some of it.” They’re all shot in the (very cute) style of an earring placed on top of a vintage photograph or magazine image so that it looks like the model or celeb is wearing the earring.
Moore is no stranger to selling on Instagram. Her vintage homewares page, @casa_shop, which is definitely worth browsing if you’re into pretty glassware, has more than 9,000 followers after just a year, a fact that might explain why @joya_shop counts influencers like @double3xposure, @voostore, and @persephonevint among its 835 followers. And hey, about that current follower count: It means less competition when there’s something you actually really want to buy.
For now, Moore says you can only shop her finds — which she sources through antique stores and estate sales — on Insta, but jewelry may show up in the mix at Casa Shop’s web store in the future. Check out a few of our favorites from her archive below.
