When I first meet people, it’s not my shining personality, list of accomplishments, or earnest grin that gets commented on. It is, without fail, always my eyebrows.

At the pharmacy, while picking up a prescription for yeast infection medication, a pharmacist once proclaimed, “Your eyebrows look like feathers!” Compliments from strange men on the train, in bars, and in Instagram direct messages are all about my brows. Nobody is staring at my body, but everyone is gawking at my eyebrows.

This is not because of a genetic miracle. It is literally Maybelline. I first found the brand’s Brow Drama Sculpting Brow Mascara in the sale bin at my local drugstore a few years back. Unlike many other brow gels, it’s not overly clumpy or sticky, so it won’t pull out precious strands of hair when you take it off. It comes in five very natural shades, and the tint adds a little drama without making it look like you painted your eyebrows on with a Magic Marker.

While great for plumping up sparse brows, Maybelline’s eyebrow gel also works for smoothing unruly strands, too.
