Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Something I’ve said before but am happy to say again: April through August is arguably the best time to buy shoes. The number of options balloon compared to what we’re offered at any other time of year. They’re also way cuter (fact), and you don’t have to worry about getting your new shoes ruined by any mix of snow and slush. So by their very nature, spring and summer shoes are easy to love. But even within the category of warm-weather shoes, one style is an obvious winner: the slide.

The slide is an easy on-and-off, wear-everyday (to do just about anything) kind of shoe. On the days when your feet couldn’t possibly handle even your cutest block heels or platforms — forget an actual heel — this flat sandal has your back. (To clarify, in case your brain immediately went to pool slides c/o Rihanna, we’re not talking about the plastic variety — though those are a valid option for some activities, too.)

Shop our favorite pairs of dressy-yet-casual slides below. All are comfortable enough to wear through an entire day and versatile enough to wear from the office to weekend errands to a night of bar-hopping.
