Just like shopping for headphones or socks, sunglasses are one of those purchases it seems reasonable to cheap out on just because they’re so damn easy to lose or break. But the key is to get yourself a pair you love so much you’ll actually take care of them.

Whether you’re the type to gravitate toward the same classic black style every year or switch it up with new trends and colors, there are tons of options out right now that you’ll want to snag before summer. (Sure, you can wear sunglasses year-round, but come June, they are a necessity.)

From a bright red cat-eye to retro frames with tinted lenses, we tried out a handful of noteworthy shades from brands you’ve probably heard of by now (like Gentle Monster) and more under-the-radar names (like David Catalan).
