Frayed denim has probably been around as long as jeans have been around, but in the past few years, that cut-off, undone hem almost seems to have become the norm (at least in street style blogs and on Instagram). Now that you can find so many cute denim pieces to wear pretty much anywhere on your body — including a ton of different styles of shoes, from babouches to sneakers to block heels — it was only a matter of time before the frayed hem look made its way from our ankles to our feet.
When combined with the versatile slide sandal shape that’s also everywhere right now, the result is a laid-back, easy-to-wear, summer-friendly shoe you can throw on with just about anything — except maybe those frayed jeans. (Let’s not go overboard!)
I first saw the look at Brother Vellies (those ones are no longer available), and later found a similar pair of Ancient Greek sandals at Mille, but was pleased to discover this trend can also be had on the cheap, maybe thanks to its low-brow inspiration (cut-offs!). The options below start out under $20 and cap off at $235.
