One of the many joys of summer is that getting dressed can be pretty easy if you want it to be. A simple throw-on-and-go dress and a pair of slides are a breeze to put together and really do go a long way.
But that reliable, no-frills approach to summer dressing can sometimes leave you in a bit of a style rut, since you’re practically wearing the same thing every day. So in order to switch things up and get some ideas flowing, we’re turning to Instagram, of course.
We’re looking at a handful of different silhouettes, layering tricks, and bold accessories — and resourceful ways to use them — in this first month of summer to offer easy and cool outfits (both in regards to style and temperature). The best part? You probably already own a lot of what you’d need to recreate any of these looks — you just need to be reminded of what you can do with them.
Layer your lightest pieces — like a linen T-shirt dress and cropped trousers — for a fun, oversized look. (Bonus points if they’re the same color.)
Throwing an oversized button-down over your bathing suit is an easy way to look cute on the beach when caftans aren't your thing.
Play around with different textures: Swap your blue jeans with a pair of cargo pants (seriously) or khakis.
Don’t underestimate the power of some good accessories to make a basic outfit pop.
Matching sets are still — and will probably always be — a good bet.
Grab an oversized blouse for under $5 at your nearest thrift store, tie it up into a cropped top, and call it a day.
You can never (ever) go wrong with a head-to-toe monochrome look — especially when it’s white.
Uber-high-waisted trousers + bandeau top (or scarf!) = very chic.
In case you needed reassurance, off-the-shoulder tops are still in full effect this summer.
Mark my words, cargo pants are coming back. Pair a busy, printed bottom with a bright graphic T-shirt.
We told you midi skirts were the easiest lazy-outfit trick, didn’t we?
