As a food editor, I spend most of my days thinking about, well, food. Since most of my waking hours are consumed with thoughts like “Why are we all eating charcoal?” and “Will that vegan mayo company actually make a comeback?” and “Yes, these 33 burgers really are the best in the country,” I like the rest of my life to be relatively food free.
The paintings in my apartment are a mix of punctuation marks and cheeky Indian pop art, and and I prefer my couch pillows have stripes over cutesy bacon strips. My wardrobe follows the same rules, minus my ice cream cone-dotted phone case (it was free) and a tiny gold pizza slice necklace (again, free). So I never imagined I’d be obsessing over this pizza-shaped crossbody bag from Zara — even going so far as to contemplate handing over hard-earned dollars for it.
But just look at it! I never thought beaded pepperoni and black olives could be so gorgeous. It’s honestly elegant, and not cartoonish like most food-themed clothing. But what I like most about the bag is its shape. It’s not an entire pie of pizza — that would make it circular and therefore not a good shape for a purse — and it’s not a slice of pizza — a triangle, also not a good purse shape!
Instead, it’s half of a pie, or an incredible useful semi-circle that ensures you can fit a wallet, a phone, keys, some good lip balm, and even tampons without it bulging in weird places. And since it’s crossbody, that leaves both hands free to eat a half a pie in real life.
