Universal Standard is no stranger to championing extended sizing in ways other retailers haven’t even thought of yet. The online shop — known for stocking actually cute clothes in sizes 10-28, a mix of plus and straight — launched its Universal Fit Liberty program earlier this spring, allowing customers to swap items from the core collection that no longer fit for sizes that do. This week, the brand introduced a collection of size-extended jewelry.
“We believe our customer deserves affordable luxury, so we created this limited-edition jewelry collection to reinforce the promise of our brand ethos, ‘now you can,’” says Alexandra Waldman, co-founder and chief creative officer, in a press release. “What was not possible before is now the standard.”
The collection consists of two signet-style rings, earrings, a necklace, a choker, and a bracelet, with nothing priced over $70. Each piece is simple and unfussy — much like the brand’s clothing — with a focus on minimal shapes in high-quality silver.
Universal Standard made it a point to call out the lack of attention paid to proper scale and jewelry design for larger body types in the press release, mentioning that many women often have to deal with jewelry that pinches or sits unnaturally. The line, which was all designed to scale on a larger frame, is the brand’s effort to offer those women a better option.
