Rent the Runway is the most obvious choice for borrowing a dress to wear to a wedding, but it’s not always top of mind when it comes to actually purchasing things. The exception to that rule: the site’s semi-annual clearance sale, when contemporary and designer dresses (and regular clothes and accessories, too) are marked down up to 80% off retail prices.
And that sale is happening right now. There are a lot of dresses for under $100, so if you were considering renting one for an upcoming occasion, it probably makes sense to just buy it outright. It’s also a good time to buy a gown, should there be a black tie event in your future, because gowns are expensive and these are not.
But don’t forget that these are not brand-new dresses. Rent the Runway promises that everything for sale is in “like-new condition,” but it’s also all final sale. Our advice: Read the customer reviews and scan through the real-life photos before making a purchase. Here, a handful of a few of the best options that are priced around $100, with most available for less and a select few for more.
