Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
Our list of Labor Day Weekend sales is so extensive this year that we won’t blame you if you feel a little lost. It’s awesome if you’re in for a few hours of web browsing, but it’s a lot to sift through if you’re short on time.
To help you cut through the noise, we’ve pulled out the best-of-the-best sales to hit in each category, with a big emphasis on all the stuff we know you want to buy for fall: sweaters, jackets, new shoes, new corduroys, and more along those lines. Below, head straight to the categories you want to shop for our recommendations on which items to buy. But if you’ve got time, though, definitely check out the full list — there’s a lot.
Lingerie
There’s never a better time to buy underwear than when it’s on sale. For something extra pretty, check out Brooklyn boutique The Great Eros, which is offering 15% off sitewide with the code TGELABORDAY.
If you need to stock up, definitely make a beeline to Aerie, which is still running a 10-for-$35 promotion on all its underwear. There are a lot of options, they’re uber comfy, and way cuter than any other mall brand underwear. (Oh, and there's also a separate sale where all bralettes are $10 and all bras are $20.)
If you need curvy sizing, Addition Elle is having a good sale too — shop bras, panties, and other lingerie for up to 60% off.
Hosiery brand Commando is also hosting a pretty great sale, with 20% off purchases of $100 or more. If you use this opportunity to stock up on tights and seamless thongs, you’ll easily hit that minimum spend.
Last one: Adore Me is having a huge Labor Day sale. Get your first bra and panty set for $19.95, take 25% off when you buy two sets, take 40% off when you buy three sets and join as a VIP member; and buy one set and get the second for 50% off.
Sweaters
Sweater shopping isn’t super easy during end-of-summer sales, but it can be done. Orchard Mile has an extra 25% off sale items for brands like Vince, Rag & Bone, and Theory. A few picks: the Vince Lattice Stitch Crew is $128, and the Rag & Bone Valentina Cashmere Cropped Top is $98.
J.Crew’s Labor Day Weekend sale also has a decent amount of sweaters; the Italian Cashmere Long-sleeve T-shirt (which is a sweater, not a T-shirt) starts at $69 after discount, and the Ribbed Sweater With Snap Sleeves is $45.
And while nothing is cheap at Naked Cashmere’s Labor Day sale, the extra 15% off does help make the prices of the brand’s luxe sweaters feel a little less steep. A few of the signature styles that are normally $125 will be $106.
Basics
If you’re justing looking for a few basics to refresh your wardrobe before fall, definitely do it this weekend! Pretty much every major retailer is having a sale, from J.Crew (take an extra 30% off sale styles with code YESPLEASE) to Gap (take up to 50% off sitewide, plus an extra 20% off sale items, with code GETMORE).
If you need to stock up and only feel like hitting up one sale, that should be Frank + Oak, where a bunch of handy (and stylish) basics are BOGO 50% off. Expect to find great jeans, perfect everyday T-shirts, cozy sweatshirts, and work basics like shirt dresses and wide leg crepe pants.
If you want to opt for something a little less mainstream, head to Uniforme, where you can score really cool, sleek clothes for work — like these big-ass palazzo pants or this amazing pinstripe skirt — for 50% off.
Shoes
Arguably the best part of fall shopping is buying new shoes or boots. And arguably the worst part of that is that shoes and boots can run expensive, which is why buying them on sale is key.
We called this out in Friday’s newsletter, but the Dear Frances sale is pretty good: There’s a 20% off discount sitewide, which brings these very good black mid-calf boots to $440 (from $550).
Frye is offering up an extra 25% off sale items this weekend, and boots are included. These flat zip-up ankle boots are marked down to $179 (from $328) and these heel black ankle boots are $199 (from $348).
If you don’t need boots but do need a funky pair of flats or pumps, head to indie brand Intentionally Blank. These black platform slingbacks are $97, and these leather slides are $78. And there are a few cute pairs of shoes over at the Oak + Fort sale too, like these camel mules for $52.80, these taupe ankle boots for $64.80, and these black vegan leather sneakers for $70.40.
Coats and Jackets
If you need a consolation prize for summer’s end, might we suggest getting excited for jacket weather. There are a bunch of sales happening this weekend that’ll let you buy a new one without paying full-price.
On the lower end of the price spectrum, Abercrombie is offering 40% off coats, like this classic trench (now $96,) and this super-cute bomber (now $72).
If you can spend a little more, Nordstrom definitely has the best outerwear selection on sale at the moment. It includes plenty of silhouettes that’ll be big this fall, including oversized blazers (check out this one from Tibi, now $296), moto jackets (this Topshop suede one is great, now $185), and long duster jackets (check out this one by AYR for $290).
Beauty
Ulta’s semi-annual beauty sale started last Sunday, with lots of deals launching throughout the next 20 days. Our senior beauty reporter flagged the Murad Youth Renewal Serum (on sale for $44) as this weekend’s best on-sale item, but do poke around and see if there’s something else you want to add to your cart.
Make Beauty’s sale is worth checking out, too, for its 25% off sitewide discount. Head straight to the best-sellers page for a cheat sheet on what to buy. Two recommendations: the Universal Stick (now $18), and the Marine Salve (now $15).
Over at SkinStore, you can take 20% off, and snag a free beauty bag worth $65 at checkout. Brands include Erno Laszlo, Peter Thomas Roth, La Roche-Posay, Dr. Dennis Gross, and many more.
And finally, if you just want to sort through a selection of beautifully packaged products, check out the beauty tab at The Dreslyn, which is also offering a 20% off sitewide discount. Now’s the time to stock up on slightly-less-pricey items from brands like Grown Alchemist, Rodin, and more.
