Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
There’s something ineffable about this time of year, when you wake up in the morning with the urge to Get. Shit. Done. It probably has something to do with the singular feeling of back-to-school shopping — the excitement and nerves over new beginnings, the sense that the right calculator or pair of gym shorts would make your life just a little bit better.
Of course, no one product can make you more productive, no acquisition less anxious, but we put together a list of items that can at least help you get started. This fall, even if you don’t change careers or move across the country or, yes, start at a new school, you can still eliminate stains, organize your closet, and make sure your shoes actually goddamn fit.
We can vouch for everything here, and if we’ve missed something that helps you GYST*, drop us a note (firstname.lastname@example.org) and we’ll add to the list!
*Get Your Shit Together. Don’t fight it, it’s happening.
