Tom Mora

Head of Women’s Design at J.Crew

I distinctly remember the moment I really got hooked on fashion. It was the first time I saw Vogue, the November 1982 issue to be specific. When I was 14 years old, I came across it on a table. Isabella Rossellini was on the cover, shot by Richard Avedon, and I was mesmerized. She had very little makeup on and her hair was tousled, and as I flipped through the pages, I remember becoming more and more wide-eyed. I must have looked at it for two hours. I loved the strength of the photographs, the models, and of course all of the clothing. I began drawing designs that were in the style of that particular issue, so my mother began to bring other fashion publications home.
