Only two years into his career, this Parsons alum is racking up accolades with his namesake line, CG by Chris Gelinas. First he snagged the Made for Peroni Young Designer Award for his debut collection—which came with a $40,000 check and a spot at Made Fashion Week—and then he was shortlisted for LVMH’s Prize for Young Fashion Designers. Here’s hoping he invested in a sizeable trophy case.
Gelinas cut his teeth interning with Marc Jacobs and Proenza Schouler, two influences that come through in his designs. His collections place a major emphasis on technical touches, clever fabrics, and innovative construction, but they’re still impressively feminine and, above all, entirely wearable. “Imagining a woman who loves the transformative aspects of good design and attention to craft and details is always in my head,” he says. “For me, modernity is in the function of the clothes, not necessarily in the aesthetic. Making clothes comfortable and approachable while still infusing emotion and fantasy is key.” —Casey Lewis
