It's officially time to announce the Racked Young Guns class of 2015, the designers that represent the country's most promising new talent. On the following pages, you'll meet 19 brands that are poised for greatness. And for the first time ever, we've partnered with the tradeshow Capsule New York to showcase their work; look out for a dedicated Racked Young Guns section come September.
This year’s winners include designers from New York City, Los Angeles, Boston, and New Orleans. Though each one has roots stateside, some have already gone international. Ahlem Manai-Platt designs her line of eyewear in LA, but sources deadstock materials from Paris. Priory operates out of Brooklyn and Vancouver; and Kaarem splits its time between New York and Vietnam. You’ll find others in boutiques in Japan, Denmark, and Germany—not to mention the best stores in the U.S.
It took months to get to this point. In early April, we posted an open call for nominations; to qualify, each designer had to be under the age of 35, or have a line less than two years old. From there, Racked editors whittled down a list of over 200 brands. A panel of experts—including industry veterans like Jennifer Mankins of Bird, Kristen Lee Cole of TenOverSix, April Uchitel of Spring, and Racked Young Guns 2014 graduate Wing Yau of WWAKE—submitted their own picks. After much deliberation, 19 brands made the cut.
Without further ado, meet this year’s class. —Tiffany Yannetta
