Did you love Mad Max: Fury Road? More specifically Charlize Theron’s fearless heroine Imperator Furiosa, who had way more to do in the film than its titular Max? If so, you’re in luck: According to Deadline, Theron is confirmed to star in Fast 8, the next installment in the hugely popular franchise. She’ll join Jason Statham (her Fury Road co-star Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s fiancé!), Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, and the rest of the returning cast. No word yet on whether she’ll sport her Mad Max character’s black war paint and buzzcut for this particular flick, but for those of us longing for another big-screen go-round with Furiosa (and heartbroken that Theron won’t appear in the upcoming sequel Mad Max: The Wasteland), this is a pretty solid consolation prize.
That Universal Pictures didn’t go with The Fast and the Furiosa for the eighth installment’s title, however, seems like a missed opportunity.
