Inside a Healing Soul Tattoo Session

‘Pretty Smart’ gets up close and personal to see how it’s done.

Soul tattoos may be a recent trend. But Ash Glynn of Wadulisi Woman says that in ancient times, tattoos were a healing art, and getting them has been a spiritual experience for centuries.

These days, Ash is a licensed tattoo artist and a Reiki healer based in San Francisco who does hand-poked tattoos in one-of-a-kind designs for clients. She uses natural sticks instead of the typical tattoo “gun” because it’s more gentle, she says, and also incorporates smudge sticks and tarot readings into her sessions.

The result, as Racked’s own intrepid ink recipient, Tiffany Yannetta, found, was “the most pleasant experience of getting a tattoo I’ve ever had.”
